Torts 2020: John Tortorella Deserves Coach of the Year Consideration

Can we, please, retire the phrase "one of the youngest teams in the league"? That's been true for 5 bloody years! The entire league is getting younger and, as long as the Jackets keep letting everyone over 29 and on an expiring contract walk, they'll continue to be one of the youngest teams in the league.
Quit being so lazy and repeating worn out excuses/reasons/whatever you want to call it.

Hello there friend,

1) It's not a phrase. It's just an objective fact!

2) Whatever the reason is that they're so young - it doesn't change the fact that it's true. Or that it has an impact on a coach.

3) I'd love to hear further clarification of why this is "lazy" - or what the even has to do with this, or what that even means. Pointing out the fact of them being the youngest team in the league is just reinforcement to Torts having to consistently coach more inexperienced players than other coaches, and get them NHL ready. Which is hard!

It is lazy because that has been the clarion call of the Blue Jackets for 5 years. But, as I pointed out, unless the Jackets make no trades, sign no free agents and intentionally age the team, which is not going to happen, they will stay one of the youngest teams in the league for the foreseeable future. Why? Because the rest of the league is shedding older players and getting younger. There is no longer any need to state that the Jackets are one of the youngest teams in the league because, unless a person became a Jackets fan five minutes ago, the idea has been repeated ad naseum for 5 years. Every Jackets fan site, the Dispatch, etc, etc, etc seems to take it as solemn duty to take every opportunity to remind everyone that the Jackets are... you know. Guess what? WE ALL KNOW THAT!!
But lazy writers are going to keep reminding us poor readers of that which we already know.
Or, being fair, maybe you think we're all so forgetful (or stupid) that we have to be reminded every chance you get. Hint: We're not.

Owsh, I'd ask you to take a step back and look at this from a larger perspective. I don't think you need to be offended that media outlets state a fact about the team to prove a point that is likely true. I don't think 'everyone knows' we're the youngest team out there, and even if they did, what does it matter? I don't write for 1OB because I think fans are stupid - but because I love everything Blue Jackets. The fact that I even had to type that sentence is making me shake my head.

Bottom line - this is not something worth getting angry over. It was a simple objective fact, in one paragraph of an article with a lot of other paragraphs, to help prove a point. It'd actually be lazy to just say "Torts" is a good coach - and not say a reason why - and one reason is he is succeeding with a bunch of inexperienced (younger!) players, no?

Have a good one, buddy!

Yeah. Right. Meanwhile, every website dedicated to the Blue Jackets takes it as solemn duty to point out that simple fact at every opportunity. Wouldn't it have been enough to note that Torts has done a hell of a job with a roster without any major stars and devastated by injuries?
