Playoff Seed Hunting: Blue Jackets Not Settling for Wild Card Spot

So to build on your point about how crazy competitive and balanced the east is, (ignoring for a moment the "games in hand" issue) today, the CBJ are 2 points out of home ice advantage in the first round; but just 4 points clear of being out of the playoffs altogether. Good on them for how far they have come in the last 27 games, but from here out each and every point matters.

Hopefully some of our key wounded warriors will be back soon.

It’s absolutely wild how competitive it is. Would be devastating, though very possible, for the Jackets to drop off even after the stretch they’ve been on.

You have to think they will drop 2 if not 3 in a row at some point down the stretch.

I’m still cautious about what the postseason would look like for Columbus. If they get there, I’m fearful their lack of offensive star power will cause us to lose in 5 in round 1. Can’t remember a team in the past 10 years that’s won a cup without a true elite offensive player. (I’m counting Taresenko as one, Reilly sort of too).

Call me naive but I think Bjorkstrand is starting to get to that level

Not naive at all. Him and PLD are in my mind as the 2 that can become that someday. Just wonder if by season’s end is too early.

I'm just going to enjoy this ride for as long as it lasts. This is the most fun team to watch that we have had here. Part of it may be the low expectations coming into the season or it may be the complete buy in to the team effort.

The odds of the CBJ playing Boston, Pittsburgh, TB or Washington in the first round is about 90%. Nothing is assured however: take a look at the last ten games this season, seven on the road. So we need to bank as many points as we can now. If Josh can come back at 100%, that will be like TDL addition. Until then, my motto is defense wins championships. :-)  :-)

Just a thought: Unless the Jackets do manage to finish 2nd and don't fall out of a playoff position, they'll have to face either TB or Boston (long shot, Washington) in the first round. Not something to look forward to.

I'd rather Tampa to be honest. Vendettas aside, Tuuka Rask concerns me. He's playing almost as well as Elvis is rn and that's without the best defense in the league. Tampa is beatable by comparison in my mind

It’s been a fun season since mid December so I’m just enjoying while it lasts. I hope we make the playoffs - cause that would be so unexpectedly awesome. That said, our lack of scoring may hinder that. We shall see - but it’s pretty cool to be playing meaningful hockey in mid-feb after the offseason we had.

Very much my feeling too. Would love to get in, and my gut says they do, but that feels like house money. Between the questions entering the year, and the injury issues, it feels like an exceeding of expectations thus far.
