I agree he should be fairly easy to re-sign with the OSU ties, at least he probably likes it here. I will admit, in a absolute worst case scenerio if he and Duchene walk along with Bob and Panarin, Jarmo has given up the farm with picks and prospects. This could get very scary very fast.
I say let Florida negotiate with both and if they can work out deals, offer both of them straight up for Huberdeau.
Then go after Quick from LA as a couple year stop gap to replace Bob. He has been rumored to be available.
At the end of the day that’s a pretty even replacement for what could be losing both for nothing.
And btw, after almost 20 years of tons of money, tears, agony, and passion I have given this team, I want, no, I demand, to know the untold story of what the hell happened with Bob and the team.
I hope somebody digs and reports what the deal was with his nasty pre-season interview about “the team knows my plans” and “ask the team”.
What the hell exactly happened? Inquiring minds want to know!
Call me a conspiracy theorist if you will, but I think the fix has been in on this for at least a year as far as the Rusky’s are concerned. I think Florida has been their targeted package destination since last summer.
Look back to Panarin buying the high rise condo in Miami, the boys spent the 10 day break together in South Beach, and Florida being one of only a handful of teams that need/don’t have a #1 goalie under contract (I know, but I don’t count Luongo cause he’s old, broken and Vancouver is responsible for some of his salary should he retire)
The Islanders have Lehner and he has played lights out this year so why make a run at Bob? I think the only thing we can hope for is Jarmo convinces FLA they need to clear some serious space to afford these two, and lets just do a blockbuster. I would even throw in Carlsson to sweeten the deal. It would be kinda fun for the league to remember there were teams in Cbus and South Fla
I like the scenarios, especially if we can pick up either Trochek or Huberdeau. I just really think if I was Florida I would roll the dice and wait for free agency and pick them up for free. Of course, then they will have to have a fire sale in order to make cap space, so one way or another they gotta clear bodies. Maybe.
Anybody with half a brain, an instagram account, and a Dick Tracy decoder ring could have seen this coming months ago.
Hahaha. Called it. Bob’s little lap dog.
The more I’m thinking about this and spending other peoples money, I give up Wennberg to Florida also, since we would be getting two centers from them.
And as the Grand Finale, trade our first rounder to LA for Quick to replace Bob until Elvis enters the building. I know that sounds crazy. Heres my logic we have a track record of crash and burn on first rounders with the exception of Nash and Dubois. At least you know what your getting with Quick.
OUT: Bob, Panarin, Wennberg,19 1st round
In: Quick, Brassard, Trocheck, more cap $
No, I’m back and answering myself. Bob to Florida post haste for Brassard, and I want Vinnie Trochek. That gives us a great 2c thats signed for I think 4 more yrs at around 4.75.
You sell it to Florida by letting them know that really gets them the inside track on signing Bob’s little lap dog Panarin and this works well for everybody.
I do this deal all day everyday
No. Just no on Howard. Yes on Quick. Bob, something about long walk, short pier. Sorry for short comment. Just not feeling it right now
At this point, I really don’t even care what happens anymore. If you follow him or his lil’ buddy Artemi on instagram it has been pretty obvious for awhile that Bob wants out yesterday, and Panarin is just a kook who happens to be an incredibly talented hockey player in his spare time and needs to live the glamour life.
I just hope someday the untold story of Bob vs. The Jackets is told, because it must be epic or hilarious to make you go from the City’s #1 son to biggest D-bag in a year.
Nothing bad about that.
Well, as one of those on the other side of the fence on the Nash legacy argument, I will admit your article has good points and could sway my aggravation towards the guy a bit. I do believe the Jackets do need to retire a jersey if for no other reason than to raise some sort of banner. Up until a few days ago I figured it would probably be 72, but that ship looks to have sailed. So I say, let bygones be bygones and let’s do it and eventually I will get over it.
all I can say is in some bizarro world I hope he does make the Hall of Fame cause I would really love to see what jersey he would pick to be inducted in.
And as a final side note, as an embittered, fan scorned, I thought it would have been a hoot for Riley Nash to wear #61
Doggy, 100% agree with you. Hate the all-star game, never watch it, have no interest in a 19-17 hockey game. I want my guys going to the beach for a few days and re-charging for the stretch run. 110% agree I don’t like the league shutting down for the Olympics. Just don’t care about it and really don’t want to see Cam or Seth or Zach break an ankle or blow out a knee and hurt the CBJ playoff chances.
And as far as growing the game, when I was a kid I would much rather have gone to/watched a meaningful game with guys playing hard instead of going to the skills competition and watching guys put on dopey costumes and trying to make trick shots. No use for it. Just my opinion.
Gotta be honest, it would be nice to see Cbus get a little recognition that we actually are in the NHL. I just think the outdoor games are dumb. It was kind of a novelty when it was just the winter classic, but now there are several each year, played on crappy ice, never starting when they are supposed to because of weather, and it usually looks like the sight lines from the seats are usually terrible. Just my opinion.
Interesting interview. First I have really heard anything from Elvis. This makes me kind of excited for a couple years down the road.
Side note. Hire Lindsey to do videos. Hockey loving girls are great and hot hockey loving girls are even better.
Ryan Murray hurt
One wrist already has significant damage, but.....that’s a very good point.
The Price contract is and will be a disaster for Montreal for years. Bob’s agent has proven himself to be a kook during prior negotiations. I’m just worried by the tone of Bob’s comments that some bridges are beginning to burn, because I ‘m not sure he and his agent are going to find the better than Price deal they are looking for.
First, they need a team looking for a starting goalie. Next, they need a team with enough cap space and willing to pay him better than Price money. Finally, they need a GM dumb enough to do it. That really narrows the list down to about nobody.
Hate it, but called it a long time ago. We just got knocked back ten years. This season is going to be like watching your mansion slowly get swallowed by a sinkhole.
And the good times keep rollin’....
Totally agree. For the last almost 20 years I’m the idiot at this time of year that walks around his office telling people how great the Jackets are going to be, all pumped up, drinking the kool-aid and buying tickets.
This year I’m just sad, have tickets to opening night because I haven’t missed one, but just can’t muster much enthusiasum. It’s going to really be hard to get all jacked up when Panarin snipes an incredible shot, knowing his bags are half packed.
I also believe that one way or the other, the Bob era comes to a close this year. Hard to get excited.
The more bizarre situation is Jarmo and JD are in the last years of their contracts. What the hell is going on on Nationwide?
that being said, I have a source that says all three will be announced as re-signed shortly. The hold up with Torts is they are debating term.
Totally agree. That being said, this is why I fear the Bob era is coming to a close. I’m sure Jarmo is not going to offer up more or equal to Carey Price’s idiotic contract. Some dimwit GM will. Adios amigo, sad to see you go.
Whatever. It would be interesting to look at tha 16 playoff teams from last year and compare appearance numbers on national broadcasts.
I want to agree, I really do. Every year at this time I take a few big chugs of the Kool-aid and proclaim that this is our year. This year, meh, I’m having trouble getting fired up. The Panarin thing has been a kick in the gut, and I really think Bob is just resdy to move on, it’s not just about money. Just afraid it’s going to be a long season.
