The Blue Jackets' defensive pipeline added some depth on Monday.
Columbus signed former Boston University captain and defenseman Doyle Somerby to a two-year entry-level contract, which was first reported by The Athletic's Aaron Portzline. Somerby spent four seasons with Boston University.
In his sophomore season, Somerby nearly won the NCAA championship with the Terriers. That was a team stacked with future NHLers, led by Sabres superstar forward Jack Eichel.
Somerby was a fifth-round draft pick of the New York Islanders in 2012; as a senior in 2016-17, Somerby scored one goal and pitched in with two assists for a total of three points in 39 games.
