The Blue Jackets took two points of four this week in big games against Metropolitan Division opponents, and now, they're back home for an inter-conference showdown with the Chicago Blackhawks. They're still tied for the East's final wild card spot with the Islanders, and here's what to expect:

Matchup:

Columbus Blue Jackets vs. Chicago Blackhawks
Nationwide Arena, 7 p.m.
TV: Fox Sports Ohio

What to Watch For:

  • The Blue Jackets are really struggling to score goals. Their shot-first mentality has faded over the last few games, and they've been locked in three straight 2-1 games: at home to the Flyers (overtime loss), at New Jersey (win) and at Philadelphia (loss). They need points tonight against a Western Conference opponent.
  • It's been a long run atop the Central Division for the Blackhawks, but that's coming to an end this year. It doesn't mean they're not still dangerous: they have offensive firepower and a solid cast of supporting youngsters, but Chicago will be watching as the playoffs begin this spring for the first time in a decade. That's impressive.
  • Columbus needs something from its top players tonight. They've had too many quiet games from Josh Anderson, Cam Atkinson and others this week. You could lump Pierre-Luc Dubois in there, too. It's time to take care of home ice and collect points as every games means so much more down the stretch. This is a game they need to win.

Tale of the Tape:

Blackhawks
26-27-8 / 8th in Central Division

PP: 15.8% (29th) / PK: 82.7% (7th)
5v5 Corsi: 53.5% (3rd)

Blue Jackets

30-26-5 / 5th in Metropolitan Division
PP: 14.1% (31st) / PK: 76.3% (27th)
5v5 Corsi: 51.7% (7th)
