With 20 games remaining in the season, the Columbus Blue Jackets are holding on to a playoff spot by two points over the New York Islanders. Now, the Metropolitan-leading Washington Capitals come into town. Here's what's ahead tonight:

MATCHUP:

Columbus Blue Jackets vs. Washington Capitals
Nationwide Arena, 7 p.m.
TV: Fox Sports Ohio

WHAT TO WATCH FOR:

  • This series may be 3-0 in favor of the Capitals so far this season, but they won those three games by a grand total of four goals. Expect another close game between two teams fighting for playoff positioning (albeit in different contexts) moving forward.
  • The Blue Jackets' penalty kill has gone from one of the NHL's worst in January and early February to allowing just one power play goal over the last six games. The Capitals should test this modest improvement, as they rank seventh in the NHL in power play percentage.
  • There is the chance for significant lineup changes from either team after the time this article is posted, based on the happenings around the NHL's trade deadline (3 p.m. today). Stick with 1st Ohio Battery for any and all Blue Jackets roster moves.
