The Blue Jackets announced Friday that they sent forward Kent Johnson to the AHL and recalled forward Yegor Chinakhov

Johnson, the No. 5 overall pick in the 2021 Draft, has recorded 17-29--46 in 96 games since making his debut in the 2021-22 season. He posted 16-24--40 in 79 games in 2022-23 as a rookie but has registered 1-2--3 in eight games this season and has been a healthy scratch twice. He was benched in Thursday's win over Tampa and did not play in the final 14:03 of the contest.

Chinakhov, the No. 21 overall selection in the 2020 Draft, has scored 11-16--27 in 92 career NHL games including 30 in 2022-23 where he registered 4-9--13 before suffering an ankle injury. This season, he's posted 3-1--4 in three AHL games.

Both players are currently exempt from waivers and are scheduled to be restricted free agents at the end of the season.

The Blue Jackets will be back on the ice Saturday at 7 p.m. ET in D.C. to take on the Capitals.
