CBJ GOALS: |
|||||
Adam Fantill's second career overtime game winner ended a five-game winless streak as the Columbus Blue Jackets beat the Anaheim Ducks 4-3 on Tuesday night at Nationwide Arena.
Zach Werenski had three points, including two goals, and Boone Jenner scored and had an assist. Kent Johnson had two assists. Jet Greaves made 24 saves.
Ryan Strome and Mikael Granlund scored for Anaheim. Ville Husso made 24 saves.
While the Blue Jackets were getting ready for their matchup with Anaheim, the Ducks were in action in New York on Monday night, where they beat the Rangers 4-1 at Madison Square Garden.
If there was a time for a desperate Blue Jackets team to catch an opponent on the second of a back-to-back, this was the game to do it. And Zach Werenski is the man you can count on, as the Jackets’ leading point scorer registered his 10th tally of the season to put Columbus ahead 1-0 in the first period.
A 1-0 lead through 20 minutes, the two teams combined for four goals 1:59 apart inside the first 5:29 of the second period. Anaheim's Ryan Strome tied the score 1-1 at 3:35. Werenski scored his second of the night at 3:59 to give the Jackets the 2-1 lead. Jenner's insurance marker extended the Columbus 3-1 lead before Granlund's marker at 5:29.
The Blue Jackets had their only power plays of the game in the third period, but went 0-for-2. Jackson LaCombe tied the game at 16:44 of the third period.
In overtime, Fantilli secured the victory, skating through two defenders — including fellow 2023 draft classmate, Leo Carlsson — up ice and beating a third as he fired the winner past Husso.
Here's how the Blue Jackets got back in the win column:
1st Period:
