Minutes before the NHL holiday roster freeze, the Columbus Blue Jackets bolstered their offense with the acquisition of winger Mason Marchment from the Seattle Kraken.

TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun was the first to report the deal.

In exchange, the Blue Jackets are sending a pair of draft picks to the Kraken: a fourth-round selection in the 2026 NHL Draft and a second-round pick in 2027.

The fourth-round pick was originally owned by the New York Rangers, and was acquired by the Blue Jackets in a 2024 deal that sent Jack Roslovic to the Big Apple.

Marchment, 30, is in the final year of a four-year, $18 million contract he signed with the Dallas Stars in July of 2022. He was dealt from Dallas to Seattle in June in exchange for second and third-round draft picks.

His cap hit this season is $4.5 million, making Marchment the third-highest paid forward on the team behind Sean Monahan ($5.5 million) and Charlie Coyle ($5.25 million).

"Mason is a player I know very well, and I think he will add a great deal to our team," said President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Don Waddell. "He is a physical, hard-nosed competitor with proven offensive ability."

"We are very excited to have him join the Blue Jackets."

Marchment has just four goals (and nine assists) in 29 games this season with the Kraken but is coming off back-to-back 20+ goal seasons with the Stars, including 22 goals in just 62 games last season.

For his career, Marchment has 80 goals and 122 assists for a total of 202 points in 331 games. The 6'5", 215lb native of Uxbridge, Ontario, Canada can play either forward position but has generally slotted in at left wing throughout his seven-year NHL tenure.
