Monahan (3rd, 16:32)

Sean Monahan's goal with 3:28 left in the game propelled the Columbus Blue Jackets to a 5-3 win over the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday night at Nationwide Arena.

Columbus went 3-1-0 during a four-game homestand and has won seven of eight.

Charlie Coyle and Mathieu Olivier each scored and had an assist. Zach Werenski and Cole Sillinger had two assists. Kirill Marchenko and Erik Gudbranson scored. Elvis Merzlikins made 22 saves.

Travis Konecny scored a hat trick for Philadelphia. Dan Vladar made 26 stops.

Both goalies made outstanding saves in this one, and Vladar had two third-period glove-saving stops on Adam Fantilli and Boone Jenner, keeping the Flyers in it until Columbus was able to pull away late.

Looking back to the last time the Blue Jackets played on Saturday night, there were a total of six first-period goals as Columbus led the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-2 and won the game 8-5.

On Wednesday night's nationally televised TNT game, there were half the goals in the first period as Columbus got off to a quick 1-0 lead and led the Flyers 2-1 through 20 minutes.

It only took 38 seconds into the game for the red-hot Coyle to open the scoring. The goal came moments after being recognized pre-game for playing his 1,000th career game last Thursday.

Philadelphia tied the game midway through the period as Konecny scored his 18th.

Finishing the period how it started, Columbus scored in the final minute of the frame as Werenkski found Marchenko with the feed for the finish.

The Jackets got some insurance with Gudbranson's first of the year early in the second period.

Konency scored two third-period goals for his third career hat trick.

Monahan's ninth goal of the year in the third period, 1:18 after Konency's goal, helped Columbus regain the lead and get the victory. Olivier scored an empty-net goal.

With the win, the Blue Jackets leapfrog the New Jersey Devils and Washington Capitals. Columbus is tied with Philadelphia for fourth place in the Metropolitan Division with 57 points.

Here's how the Blue Jackets won their third straight to continue their ascent up the Metro Division:

1st Period:

(0:38 — CBJ Goal): Before the game, Coyle was honored with a silver stick for playing 1,000 career games. Not even a minute into the first period, he was using his actual stick to give the Blue Jackets a 1-0 lead on the game's first shot on goal. Olivier (8) and Werenski (37) picked up the assists.

(1:58 — CBJ Goal): It's never a bad time to score your first goal of the season. That moment came for Gudbranson with a slap shot off the draw as he got the insurance marker early into the second period to extend the Blue Jackets' 3-1 lead. Sillinger (16) picked up his second point in as many games, and Coyle (23) has consecutive multi-point games after his three-point night on Saturday.

(4:08 — PHI Goal): Konecny's second goal of the game brought the Flyers back within one. Christian Dvorak (21) and Jamie Drysdale (18) had the assists.

(15:14 — PHI Goal): Who else?

Konecny's hat trick tied it all up 3-3. He has 38 points (20 goals, 18 assists) in 31 career games against Columbus, the most against any opponent. The goal is his 14th in the last 14 games against the Jackets.

Travis Sanheim (17) and Dvorak (22) had the assists.

(16:32 — CBJ Goal): The Flyers seized the momentum with the last two goals. But Monahan came through with his ninth of the year, and third in four games, to give Columbus the lead once again. Assists went to Damon Severson (17) and Kent Johnson (11).
