The Blue Jackets will be without one of their top defensemen for 4-6 weeks.

Ryan Murray suffered a broken hand Saturday night in Buffalo, while attempting to block a shot in the first period. The former first-round draft pick had surgery Monday on the hand.

Given the prognosis, Murray may be able to rejoin the Jackets for the opening round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, but should definitely be available if Columbus advances.

Expect Markus Nitvaara's minutes to increase on the blue line for the Jackets. Trade deadline acquisition Kyle Quincey is also a safe bet to see more regular ice time.

Murray has 11 points in 60 games this season for the Blue Jackets.
