Justin Danforth opened the scoring at 16:26 from the front of the net when he deflected Erik Gudbranson's wrist shot from the right-wing wall.

Chris Kreider tied the game with a right-circle shot on an odd-man rush at 18:46 after receiving a nice no-look feed from Erik Gustafsson.

The clubs were knotted at one after the first period with each team registering seven shots on goal.

2nd Period

After a turnover by Adam Boqvist, Vincent Trocheck's cross-ice feed found Alexis Lafreniere, who beat Elvis Merzlikins from the left doorstep at 11:17.

Adam Fantilli tied the game with a lightning-quick wrist shot from the left circle at 12:35 that beat Rangers goalie Jonathan Quick to the far side.

Sean Kuraly dispatched a rebound from Alexandre Texier's shot past Quick from the right doorstep at 12:54 to give the Jackets a 3-2 lead.

Columbus headed to the third period ahead 3-2 along with a 23-22 edge in shots on goal.

3rd Period

Jack Roslovic had a great chance to double the lead at 6:27 after a feed from Johnny Gaudreau saw him in front of the net, but Quick made the save.

Lafreniere tied the game from the right doorstep at 19:49 to send the game to overtime.

The Jackets and Rangers headed to the extra period with New York ahead 39-26 in shots on goal.

Both teams had several chances highlighted by Texier's left-circle shot, but nobody found the net.

Lafreniere scored the shootout's only goal and the Rangers won.

With the loss, the Jackets fall to 4-7-4.
