Who could have seen this coming?

The Blue Jackets basically threw names into a hat and formed a roster for this year's NHL Prospects Tournament in Traverse City. That's an exaggeration, of course, but they did not bring the stacked teams of previous years to Centre Ice Arena this time around – so you could understand if they weren't playing the late game on Tuesday night.

But here they are.

A group of free-agent invites and a few veterans has made its way to the championship game after defeating the Carolina Hurricanes by a 4-1 final on Monday night. If they win Tuesday, the Blue Jackets will have won their fifth prospects tournament title after already making a record sixth trip to the championship game (second year in a row, as well).

Nikita Korostelev (invite), Kevin Stenlund, Kole Sherwood, and Eric Robinson (empty net) scored goals for Columbus, which faces host Detroit in the championship game. Game time is 7 p.m. in Traverse City and fans will be able to stream the game using the FOX Sports GO app.
