We're making progress.

The Columbus Blue Jackets have pared down their training camp roster, cutting 24 players to get their group down to 34. They still have 11 cuts to make before the final 23-man roster can be submitted prior to opening night, but they have three preseason games remaining over the next six days.

Here's a list of players who were cut today:

Headed to Cleveland (AHL): F Vitaly Abramov, D Brady Austin, F Paul Bittner, D Garret Cockerill, D Ryan Collins, F Dan DeSalvo, F Maxime Fortier, F Brett Gallant, F Nikita Korostelev, F Miles Koules, F Ryan MacInnis, F Justin Scott, F Kole Sherwood, D Blake Siebenaler, D Doyle Somerby, G Brad Thiessen, F Calvin Thurkauf, F Trent Vogelhuber, D Justin Wade.

On waivers for purpose of assignment to AHL: D Tommy Cross, F Zac Dalpe, F Nathan Gerbe, D Dillon Simpson.

Returned to OHL's London Knights: G Joseph Raaymakers.

Abramov is a mild surprise, but he hasn't stood out in preseason action to this point. Of those who remain in camp, intriguing names like Liam Foudy (who will play Tuesday night in the Kraft Hockeyville game) and Swedish forward Jonathan Davidsson are still with the Blue Jackets.
