The Blue Jackets pick up a point, but fall to the Chicago Blackhawks in overtime, 3-2.

The Jackets started strong in the first by putting thirteen shots on net, but Chicago struck first on a shot that may have ramped up off Murray's stick to beat Elvis and then they found themselves in penalty trouble at the end of the period.

Dubois scored a beauty to tie the game in the second and found a way to stay out of the box in the second, while Elvis stood tall against Chicago.

In the third, Nutivaara picked up his second of the season by following up on his own shot and putting the rebound past Lehner, but a power play led to Chicago tying the game.

In overtime, a tough bounce led to the Blackhawks win.

Here are tonight’s three things.

Dubois Picks up his 50th Career Goal

With a little help from Gus Nyquist and Cam Atkinson, Dubois became the second fastest player in CBJ history to hit the 50 goal mark, just behind Rick Nash.

Nyquist provided a great stretch pass, while Atkinson tipped the puck into the zone, but it was a nice move out front by Dubois to get past Lehner's poke-check.

Too many Penalties

The Blue Jackets took two penalties in the first, which lead to a 5-on-3 power play for the Blackhawks and while they survived the onslaught, it gave the Blackhawks momentum after they were already up by one. A penalty free second led to the the Blue Jackets tying the game and came out of the period with the momentum.

After a mostly penalty free third, the Jackets found themselves in the box two more times with one leading the the game-tying goal by the Blackhawks. It is easier to say than do, but Columbus needs to limit their penalties because they do not have the offensive firepower to overcome multiple power play goals.

Merzlikins With a Bounce Back Game

In his second career start the Blue Jackets clamped up on the defensive-side of the ice, but when Elvis was called upon he answered including robbing Patrick Kane.

It was a big game for Elvis, who had a rough outing in his first NHL game and wanted to prove he belongs in the NHL. He did just that by helping the Jackets pick up a point in Chicago despite the fact that he is still looking for his first NHL victory. The only blights in his game tonight was a goal by Drake Caggiula, which may have been deflected out front, a power play goal by Alex DeBrincat and a lucky bounce from a rebound that hit off Toews' leg.
