Travis Hamonic and Tim Stutzle Score Two Goals and Senators Beat Blue Jackets 5-2

Travis Hamonic and Tim Stutzle each scored two goals as the Ottawa Senators beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-2 Saturday at Canadian Tire Centre in Kanata.

1st Period

Hamonic opened the scoring at 5:17 with a slap shot from the top of the circle after he was left wide open.

Just 18 seconds later, at 5:35, Jack Roslovic ripped a wrist shot from the right circle after taking the puck away from a Senators player and racing down the wing.

Stutzle gave the Senators a 2-1 lead at 11:18 after Johnny Gaudreau turned the puck over at the offensive blue line, leading to a three-on-one rush for Ottawa.

Ottawa took a 2-1 lead into the first intermission 15-3 edge in shots on goal. 

2nd Period

Hamonic scored his second goal of the game at 2:16 on a rebound in front of the net, where he was wide open.

Jakob Chychrun gave Ottawa a 4-1 lead at 3:04 with a laser from the right circle. After the goal, Michael Hutchinson replaced Elvis Merzlikins, who made 19 saves on 23 shots.

Patrik Laine scored his second power-play goal in as many games at 10:56 with a wrist shot from the left circle after Kirill Marchenko picked Tim Stutzle's pocket and made a cross-ice pass to Laine.

The Senators led 4-2 after 40 minutes with a 28-15 edge in shots on goal.

3rd Period

Claude Giroux had a wide-open net to shoot at to extend the lead but missed high at 3:29.

Stutzle scored his second goal of the night on a breakaway after Nick Blankenburg lost his skate blade at the offensive blue line. 

The Senators won 5-2. With the loss, the Jackets fall to 20-37-6.
