CBJ GOALS:
Voronkov (PPG) (1st, 12:39)

Eric Robinson's third-period goal was the difference as the Carolina Hurricanes beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 4-1 on Tuesday night at Lenovo Center.

Seth Jarvis and Jordan Staal scored for the Hurricanes. Andrei Svechnikov had two assists. Brandon Bussi made 23 saves.

Dmitri Voronkov scored for Columbus. Jet Greaves made 27 saves.

Columbus entered play in last place in the Metropolitan Division but only four points behind second-place Carolina and seven points behind the division-leading Washington Capitals. The Capitals shut out the Blue Jackets 2-0 on Sunday, marking the first time all season that Columbus failed to score.

Voronkov scored a tic-tac-toe power play goal at 12:39 of the first period to end the scoreless streak. Jarvis countered for the Hurricanes at 9:42 of the second period.

Robinson, the former Blue Jacket, made his old team pay at 7:53 of the third period. Jordan Staal scored at 13:38 to make it 3-1, and Jordan Martinook scored the empty net goal to give Carolina the 4-1 win.

The Blue Jackets have allowed a league-high 45 third-period goals. They're now 7-0-2 when leading after the first period.

Bussi, a 27-year-old rookie, is the fifth goaltender in NHL history to win nine of his first 10 career starts. He's won seven straight decisions.

The Hurricanes wrapped up a seven-game homestand (4-3-0), their longest homestand in four years.

Here's how the Blue Jackets lost a crucial Metropolitan matchup:

1st Period:

(12:39 — CBJ Goal): Voronkov scored his 11th of the season on the power play. Sean Monahan (12) and Kirill Marchenko (15) picked up the assists.

There was a lot of action in the first 20 minutes. Zach Werenski was skating the puck out of his own zone when he nearly lost the puck, but Greaves was there to keep it out.

At the other end, Bussi was getting the puck out, but the Jackets got to it first and fired a shot to the blue paint.

Columbus was 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.

2nd Period:

(9:42 — CAR  Goal): Jarvis scored his 17th to tie the game 1-1. Svechnikov (9) got the assist.

3rd Period:

The Blue Jackets went over 13 minutes in between shots on goal into the third period.

(9:42 — CAR  Goal): Robinson's sixth, assisted by Taylor Hall (9) and Joel Nystrom (4), gave Carolina their first lead of the night.
