With a new forward set to join the lineup, the Columbus Blue Jackets begin a quick, two-game California road trip Saturday night when they visit the Anaheim Ducks.
This will be the second meeting of the week between the two teams, as the Blue Jackets defeated the Ducks 4-3 in overtime Tuesday night at Nationwide Arena.
Here are five things to know before the 10:00 p.m. puck-drop:
-
This is the second half of a back-to-back for the Ducks, who lost on home ice Friday night to the Dallas Stars by an 8-3 score. They'll obviously want to right that ship as soon as possible.
-
Head coach Dean Evason confirmed that Mason Marchment, acquired Friday night by the Blue Jackets, will make his debut Saturday night. Marchment will wear #17.
-
As usual, a bullet point is reserved for Zach Werenski. With two goals each on Tuesday and Thursday, Werenski became the first Blue Jacket defenseman to score multiple goals in consecutive games. His 13 goals and 38 points each rank second amongst NHL defenseman. Led by Z, Columbus' 27 goals by defensemen is tied (with Washington) for first in the league.
-
Forward Miles Wood has 99 career goals, and all eight of his tallies this season have come on the road. Wood has been a bright spot for the Blue Jackets, with his eight goals ranking 5th on the team.
-
While Marchment is expected to make his debut, where he fits in will be an evolving process. Evason said Saturday afternoon that Marchment would play with Adam Fantilli, but added no additional details. Here are the lineup projections:
