Dante Fabbro's third-period goal in his return to the lineup broke a scoreless tie as the Columbus Blue Jackets extended their season-best six-game winning streak in a 3-0 win over the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday night at Prudential Center.

Mathieu Olivier scored twice and has four goals in the last four games.

Elvis Merzlikins picked up his first shutout of the season with 24 saves.

Jacob Markstrom made 23 saves for the Devils.

Kirill Marchenko (illness) did not travel with the team to New Jersey, as Isac Lundestrom was elevated to the top line to start this one. Fabbro missed the previous six games with a lower-body injury.

The Blue Jackets had a goal taken off the board at the 5:10 mark of the first period. The original call on the ice was a good goal, but the Devils' challenge for goaltender interference was successful. The goal would have been Danton Heinen's 99th career tally. It was deemed that Miles Wood entered the goaltender's crease on his own accord, and while on his back, interfered with Markstrom.

A scoreless game entering the third period, the Jackets finally broke the tie as Fabbro fired his fourth of the year. Olivier added two more, including one with an empty net, as the Jackets came away with their ninth win in the last 10 games under head coach Rick Bowness.

"That was a great win, and we stuck with it," Bowness said. "For two periods, there wasn't very much room out there. We weren't giving them much. They weren't giving us much. That was a hard-checking, hard-fought game. We stayed with it. We got the first one. And then we really played well after that.

"We built on that."

The Philadelphia Flyers beat the Washington Capitals in regulation, and the Blue Jackets are back in fourth place in the Metropolitan Division.

Here's how the Blue Jackets won for the 10th time in their last 11 games overall:

1st Period:

There was no scoring in the first period.

The Jackets thought they had the lead, but Devils head coach Sheldon Keefe challenged for goaltender interference and won the challenge.

The Devils had eight of the 11 shots on goal as Columbus hadn't quite found their offensive game. New Jersey had one high-danger scoring chance.

Once again, there were no second-period goals. The Devils held an 18-11 shots advantage through 40 minutes. It was 11-8 Devils in the second. Jersey had seven high-danger chances to the Jackets' two.

New Jersey was 0-for-1 on the power play in the period as Wood received a call for interference against Markstrom, the second time his play in the crease had a bit of an unintended consequence, but no harm, no foul.

Columbus was 0-for-1 on their only power play.

(5:24 — CBJ Goal): He missed the last six games with an injury, but Fabbro's deciding goal (unassisted) broke the third-period stalemate.
