CBJ GOALS:
Kirill Marchenko (1st, 4:21)
Shootout Winner: Marchenko

This time, they came out victorious.

Kirill Marchenko scored the game-deciding goal of the shootout to extend the Blue Jackets' season-best nine-game point streak and lift the Columbus Blue Jackets over the Philadelphia Flyers 2-1 on Saturday night at Xfinity Mobile Arena.

Marchenko also scored his 100th career goal in the first period. Jet Greaves made 18 saves to improve to 9-0-2 in the last 11 starts, and the Blue Jackets are now 6-1 in the shootout. The Flyers fall to 8-4 in shootouts.

Alex Bump scored for the Flyers in the first period. Dan Vladar made 27 stops.

Outside of the first-period goals by either side, it was a grind them down, wear them out, outlast them type of game.

Marchenko's first-period goal at 4:21 started the scoring as the Blue Jackets got out to a 1-0 lead. On the play that led to the Blue Jackets' goal, shooters were firing pucks at Vladar and fighting for rebounds. Fantilli dished a pass over to Marchenko, beating Vladar, who was down in the crease and trying to recover.

Philadelphia tied it with Bump's goal at 10:24. It wasn't immediately apparent that the puck was in the net as play continued, but the officials reviewed the play and determined the puck had indeed crossed the red goal line as it went roof top into the net, just under the top post.

Later in the period, Marchenko was assessed a two-minute minor for boarding Denver Barkey. Originally declared a major penalty, the officials got together and reduced it to a minor.

Columbus killed the penalty, and both teams ended things squared up at one apiece through the first 20 minutes.

The score remained 1-1 after the second period. Columbus held a 21-11 shot on goal advantage. Damon Severson was given four minutes for cross-checking Barkey at 19:35 of the second period. The Jackets had five penalties in the middle frame, including Fantilli's fight with Carl Grundstrom.

Columbus did not convert on their only power play chance in the third period.

The Blue Jackets played a lot of hockey over the last week, going to overtime against the Los Angeles Kings on Monday, beating the Lightning in a back-to-back on Tuesday, falling in overtime to the Florida Panthers on Thursday, and beating the Flyers in the shootout to come away with six points in that span.

"We didn't give up 20 shots, five-on-five, on any of the games," head coach Rick Bowness said. "We outchance the opposition 2-to-1.

"There's no quit in this group. They kept battling, and I just love it."

Here's how the Blue Jackets improved their point streak and got in the win column:

1st Period:

(4:21 — CBJ Goal): Marchenko (25) from Adam Fantilli (28) and Damon Severson (22) got the scoring started in this one. Fantill is on a four-game point streak against the Flyers (one goal, three assists) and three straight overall (one goal, two assists). In nine of the last 11 games, Fantilli has points (six goals, six assists).

Marchenko was held pointless against Florida on Thursday, snapping a six-game point streak. He has 10 points (five goals, five assists) over the last seven games.

There was no scoring in the second period.

Fantilli got into his second career fight as he scrapped with Grundstrom at 12:18 of the second period. Fantilli was also assessed two minutes for roughing, and Grundstrom got a boarding call. The fight started after Grundstrom hit Severson into the wall behind the Jackets' net. Fantilli didn't like it, took matters into his hands, and the gloves went flying.

There was no third-period scoring as the Jackets went to another overtime. Each team had seven shots on goal in the frame.

Overtime:

Somehow, there was only one shot on goal between the clubs as Philadelphia got the shot, but Greaves made the save.

Shootout:

With tonight's shootout tally, Marchenko is tied for the lead across the NHL with six shootout goals and improved to six goals on seven shots this season (85.7%).
