Winning 50 games in the NHL is a tough, tough task. Doing it one year after being in the draft lottery? Virtually unheard of in today's game.

But the Columbus Blue Jackets haven't been sticking to the script this season. If anything, they're busting conventional thinking.

Thanks to a 3-2 win at Toronto Sunday night, the Blue Jackets have 50 wins for the first time in franchise history.

The previous record for wins in a season by the Blue Jackets was 43, a mark the Blue Jackets blew past weeks ago.

That team had names like Ryan Johansen, James Wisniewski and R.J. Umberger leading it. Now names like Brandon Saad, Seth Jones and Zach Werenski adorn the roster. It's a wonder what a few years can do for a team.

The Jackets have set many records this season, but this is a big one. 50 wins. 108 points. A team with no expectations coming through and kicking in barriers, blowing up the narrative. It's not just a place in a record book. It's a franchise beginning to see a collective shift in both respect and legitimacy.

Columbus will face the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals. Game one will take place at Pittsburgh with the exact date and time expected to be announced by the NHL later Sunday night.
