The Columbus Blue Jackets have been in playoff position for almost the entire season, but they have finally dropped out. They now sit in seventh place in the Metropolitan Division with time winding down in the regular season.

The team is winless in five straight games (0-4-1), four of which were in regulation. The Blue Jackets have only scored more than two goals twice in their past 15 games, which just isn't going to get it done.

The Blue Jackets fell so far down the standings thanks to a New York Islanders overtime win against the Detroit Red Wings and a Carolina Hurricanes win against the Vancouver Canucks.

With a win against the New Jersey Devils on the backend of their back-to-back, the Blue Jackets would vault themselves right back into playoff position. Instead of controlling their own destiny, the team will be scoreboard watching for the rest of the season.
