A big bounce-back win.

The Blue Jackets' second line of Yegor Chinakov, Jack Roslovic, and Patrik Laine led the Blue Jackets to a 3-1 victory over the Flames at Nationwide Arena Friday.

1st period

Laine scored his fifth goal in as many games 62 seconds into the game after Jack Roslovic sprung him free, leading to a forehand breakaway goal.

The Flames had their best chance of the period at 6:28 on the power play when Joonas Korpisalo denied Nazem Kadri from the slot.

The Blue Jackets nearly extended their lead at 10:18 but Laine was denied by Jacob Markstrom from the right doorstep and then Yegor Chinakov missed a wide-open net from the left slot.

Laine had his third grade-A chance of the night at 14:46 when he received a pass from Gaudreau at the right circle on a two-on-one but Markstrom slid to his left, stacked his pads, and made the save.

The duo of Laine and Chinakov had another great chance at 16:31 when Chinakov carried the puck down the left side on a two-on-zero rush but his shot was stopped by Markstrom.

The Jackets took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission trailing 14-9 in shots on goal.

2nd period

Elvis Merzlikins replaced Korpisalo in net to start the middle period. Korpisalo left the game with a lower-body injury.

Eric Robinson doubled the Jackets' lead at 2:52 after intercepting a d-to-d pass and racing down the ice before beating Markstrom to the high-glove side with a wrist shot.

Laine had another good chance to score at 17:07 after Chinakov found him with a phenomenal diagonal pass, but Laine missed the net from the right circle.

The Jackets took a 2-0 lead into the final period of regulation and trailed 18-17 in shots on goal.

3rd period

The Blue Jackets had a great chance to extend their lead with a five-on-four power play for 1:01 and a five-on-three for 0:59. At 5:57 Laine hit the post, at 6:52, Kent Johnson was stopped by Markstrom on a between-the-legs shot in front of the net.

Merzlikins had to make two huge saves on Rasmus Andersson and Kadri at 11:52.

Calgary finally broke through at 17:26 on a right-point blast from Michael Stone that went through traffic.

Despite a late Flames push with their net empty, the Jackets held strong and even added to their lead as Sean Kuraly flipped a puck from his own zone and found the net at 19:36.

The Jackets won 3-1 and improved to 9-15-2 on the season.
