Liam Foudy Scores First Regular-season Goal, Gaudreau-less Blue Jackets Beat Stars 4-1

The Blue Jackets' fourth line combined for two goals and seven points and Joonas Korpisalo made 29 saves as Columbus beat the Dallas Stars 4-1 at American Airlines Center in Dallas on Saturday. 

1st Period

The first good chance for the Blue Jackets came at 13:46 when Kent Johnson fired a shot from the high slot but Scott Wedgewood made the save. 

Liam Foudy scored his first-career regular-season goal at 17:41, crashing the net and finishing a rebound from the left doorstep to give Columbus a 1-0 lead.

Miro Heiskanen nearly tied the game at 18:23 with a backhand shot, but it hit the post and rolled through the crease.

The Jackets took a 1-0 lead into the second period while trailing 15-13 in shots on goal.

2nd Period

The Stars thought they had tied the game at 5:22 when Jason Robertson was left all alone after a line change and fired a wrist shot from the circle past Joonas Korpisalo. However, the Blue Jackets successfully challenged the goal for offside.

Dallas eventually did tie the game at 6:29 when Kent Johnson's clearing attempt was picked off by Ty Dellandrea who fired a wrist shot from the right circle past Korpisalo.

The Stars thought they took a 2-1 lead after Wyatt Johnston scored off a rebound from the right circle, but the Jackets successfully challenged it for goaltender interference. 

The teams were tied at one heading into the third period with both teams registering 22 shots on goal.

3rd Period

Dallas nearly took the lead on the power-play at 4:00 when Robertson ripped a wrist shot off the crossbar.

Adam Boqvist put the Blue Jackets ahead 2-1 at 5:49 with a slap-shot from the top of the right circle that deflected off a Stars player's stick and over the blocker of Wedgewood.

The Jackets nearly doubled their lead on the power play at 9:40 when Kirill Marchenko was robbed by Wedgewood on a shot from the right circle.

Mathieu Olivier put Columbus up 3-1 at 15:32, tapping in a loose puck after Robinson's shot trickled through Wedgewood.

Robinson added to the Jackets' lead at 18:40 when he was taken down in front of an empty net and awarded a goal.

The Jackets won 4-1 and improved to 18-34-4.

Injury Update

Johnny Gaudreau did not play in tonight's game after suffering a lower-body injury in Thursday's win against the Jets.
