Ouch.

You can count on two things when playing at Madison Square Garden: the game will be fast, and it will be weird.

The Blue Jackets are no stranger to odd games in New York and tonight was no exception. They had control of the game in the second period, but an undisciplined third period gave the Rangers all the momentum they could ask for.

After Artemi Panarin (yes, he scored) and Josh Anderson scored in the second period, Michael Grabner responded to get New York within a goal before the period ended. In the third period, the Blue Jackets came uncharacteristically unraveled.

They took three straight penalties in the offensive zone and the Rangers were all over it.

Kevin Shattenkirk scored on a wrist shot through traffic to draw even at 2-2. Oliver Bjorkstrand responded to give the Blue Jackets a 3-2 lead at 8:01 of the third period, but the Rangers answered.

Chris Kreider and Pavel Buchnevich scored power play goals only 1:47 apart to give the Rangers their first lead at 4-3, adding insult to the injury of careless penalties by the Blue Jackets. Grabner added an empty netter to wrap it up.

Injury Update

Matt Calvert was placed on injured reserve earlier Monday and is expected to miss 3-4 weeks. Cam Atkinson is on injured reserve, retroactive to Oct. 28, and could possibly return tomorrow night against Nashville. He's eligible to be activated at any time.

Next Up

The Blue Jackets are finishing off another back-to-back tomorrow night against the Nashville Predators, who were involved in a three-way blockbuster deal over the weekend that brought Kyle Turris to Nashville.
