It's slow news time for the NHL. So, I'm gonna toss out a few thoughts and welcome your opinions.
Yes, Jet and Sillinger filed for arbitration. No biggie. No Jackets player has ever gone to arbitration. Filing is more of a "Let's get this done" thing. I fully expect both to sign in the next ten days.
Fantilli did not file for arbitration. I take that as a good sign. Word is that Moe wants to stay a Jacket and the Carlsson offer sheet has really screwed up the salary scale. But I think Moe knows that he's in line to be the captain at a future date. Coupled with his desire to stay, I'm guessing that he's willing to take a hometown discount and what's holding up signing an extension is term, some kind of NTC and exactly how he's going to get paid (Signing bonuses, AAV, each year's actual salary, etc).
Who's going to be the captain, now? It seems like every pundit, insider and fan is annointing Charlie Coyle to wear the C. But he's been a Jacket for a year. Is he the best choice? If Gudbranson, who wears the A, had signed for longer than a year, he'd be a logical choice, IMO. Maybe Sean Monahan or Mathieu Olivier should be considered.
Weird thought to finish with: Maybe Don Granato should wear a Chill ball cap during a home game, this year.
