Fireworks may be coming soon.

The Athletic has reported that Columbus Blue Jacket defenseman Jack Johnson has requested a trade. The defenseman is in the last year of his contract before he is set to become an unrestricted free agent.

The 31-year old (his birthday is today - Saturday) would not comment on the report, nor would his agent, Pat Brisson.

Johnson has seen a decreased role and a decrease in ice time as the Blue Jackets try to find their way as a team.

Per the report, Blue Jackets GM Jarmo Kekalainen declined to comment.

In Johnson's Blue Jacket career, Johnson has played in 443 games scoring 35 goals and posting 115 assists for a total of 150 points in his time with the Blue Jackets.
