The Columbus Blue Jackets have announced that defenseman Zach Werenski will be out for five to six months after getting surgery on his shoulder. That is the same shoulder that he injured at the beginning of the 2017-18 season.

His surgery was performed in Columbus by Dr. Larry Watson, one of the club's OhioHealth team physicians, at Orthopedic ONE.

Blue Jackets general manager Jarmo Kekalainen gave more info via the club's press release.

"Zach has been dealing with this injury since early in the season and while he was able to play through it, our medical team determined that surgery was the best option at this time," said Kekalainen about the defenseman. "The surgery went very well and the expectation is Zach will be ready to play by the start of the season or shortly thereafter."

Despite the injury, Werenski was still able to score 16 goals on the season while also pitching in with 21 assists for a total of 37 points.
