Depth is never a bad thing, and the Blue Jackets have secured a piece of theirs.

Alex Broadhurst played only two NHL games this past season – the first two of his professional career – but logged a ton of minutes for Cleveland (AHL) and has spent five years in the organization. The Blue Jackets signed Broadhurst to a one-year, two-way (NHL/AHL) contract on Monday, tying him to the club through 2018-19.

From the team's press release:

Broadhurst, 25, collected two penalty minutes in two games with the Blue Jackets in 2017-18, making his NHL debut on April 3 vs. Detroit. He also added 19 goals and 22 assists for 41 points with 20 penalty minutes in 66 contests with the American Hockey League's Cleveland Monsters. He led the Monsters in goals and ranked second in assists (tied), points and shots on goal (133).

Broadhurst was slated to become a restricted free agent on July 1.
