Kent Johnson Scores First-career OT Winner As Blue Jackets Beat Oilers 3-2

Kent Johnson is the hero.

Kent Johnson scored his first-career overtime goal, Boone Jenner extended his goal-scoring streak to three games, and Joonas Korpisalo made 34 saves as the Blue Jackets came from behind to beat the Oilers 3-2 at Rogers Place in Edmonton. 

1st Period

Korpisalo made several key saves in the first period, highlighted by a stop on Warren Foegele from the doorstep at 7:55. 

Jenner opened the scoring at 12:25 with a great deflection off a right-point wrist shot from Adam Boqvist.

Columbus took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission while trailing 11-9 in shots on goal.

2nd Period

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins had a great chance to tie the game with the Jackets on the power play at 2:24 with a wrist shot from the slow slot but Korpisalo made the save.

Later in the power play, Stuart Skinner slid from left to right to stop a Nick Blankenburg one-timer from the left circle off a cross-ice feed from Johnny Gaudreau at 3:19.

Derek Ryan tied the game after splitting Andrew Peeke and Vladislav Gavrikov, racing down the slot and firing a wrist shot past Korpisalo at 10:17.

Korpisalo preserved the tie with Edmonton on the power play at 15:39, robbing Leon Draisaitl's wrist shot from the right circle by sliding from right to left to make a glove save.

Zach Hyman gave the Oilers the lead on the same power play at 16:16, deflecting a pass from Connor McDavid from the left doorstep.

Edmonton took a 2-1 lead into the final intermission with a 24-16 edge in shots on goal.

3rd Period

Kirill Marchenko tied the game with a stuff attempt from the right doorstep after a wrap-around attempt at 11:26.

Korpisalo made a big save on Nugent-Hopkins's wrist shot from the right slot at 19:02.

Both teams were tied at two after regulation with Edmonton leading 36-23 in shots on goal.

Overtime

Johnson scored the winner at 2:29 from the high slot, through a screen, and then through the glove of Skinner. 

With the win, the Jackets improve to 15-30-3.
