Goals by rookies Kirill Marchenko and Kent Johnson helped the Blue Jackets bounce back against the Senators 4-3 Sunday at Nationwide Arena.

1st Period

Johnson opened the scoring on the power play with a wrist shot through traffic from the right circle at 2:41.

Dylan Gambrell evened the score at 4:00, tapping in a sweet cross-ice pass from Erik Brannstrom after Gambrell got behind Jake Christiansen on the rush.

Just five seconds later at 4:05, Eric Robinson beat Cam Talbot to the far side with a wrist shot from the left circle off the rush.

Ottawa tied the game at 9:26 after Jon Gillies had a blade malfunction, fell to the ice, and made an incredible save on Tyler Kleven before Mark Kastelic scored from the right circle.

The Sens took the lead at 14:46 off a left-circle face-off where Alex DeBrincat took the puck, moved past Johnson, and fired a wrist shot from the right slot past Gillies.

Ottawa led 3-2 after 20 minutes and took an 11-6 advantage in shots on goal into the first intermission.

2nd Period

Brady Tkachuk had a chance to double Ottawa's lead at 12:08 with a nice move to get from the goal line to the goalmouth but his backhand bid was denied by Gillies.

Boone Jenner nearly tied the game at 18:59 with a nifty move around a defender before firing a shot from the slot off the iron.

The score remained 3-2 in favor of Ottawa after two periods with the Sens ahead 19-13 in shots on goal.

3rd Period

Marchenko had a chance to tie the game on the power play at 10:19 when he tipped a centering pass toward the net but was denied by Cam Talbot.

As the power play expired, Jake Christiansen hit the crossbar with a left-circle wrist shot at 11:04.

After a rush to the net by Marchenko that led to the puck finding its way to the left circle, Jenner one-timed a shot past Talbot to tie the game at 14:11.

Johnson's bid for a second goal at 17:51 from the left doorstep was denied by Talbot.

The teams were tied at three after regulation with Ottawa leading 27-21 in shots on goal.

Overtime

Marchenko scored his franchise single-season record 21st goal at 0:16 with a right-circle wrist shot following an Ottawa turnover.

With the win, the Jackets improve to 24-44-8.
