Despite a 46-save performance in his NHL debut, Jet Greaves' Blue Jackets fell 4-2 to the Maple Leafs at Scotiabank Arena Tuesday night.

1st Period

Toronto opened the scoring at 5:10 when Zach Aston-Reese beat Greaves with a right-circle shot following a defensive breakdown.

Greaves kept the deficit at one while the Leafs were on the power play at 9:25, denying John Tavares' shot from the slot.

The Jackets tied the game at 12:22 after Liam Foudy danced through multiple defenders and slid the puck to Kent Johnson at the left circle, who wired a feed to Jack Roslovic, who beat Joseph Woll, who was falling down, with a shot from the slot.

The teams were tied at one after the first period with Toronto leading 16-5 in shots on goal.

2nd Period

Johnson had a chance to give the Jackets the lead at 2:40, but his left-circle wrist shot was denied by Woll.

Alexander Kerfoot put the Leafs ahead 2-1 at 7:25, finishing off a three-on-one rush after Greaves robbed Nick Abruzzese from the right circle following an Adam Boqvist turnover.

Greaves made another fantastic save on with the Leafs on the power play, this time denying Auston Matthews' left-circle wrist shot with his glove at 9:38.

The Maple Leafs led 2-1 after 40 minutes along with a 33-17 edge in shots on goal.

3rd Period

Aston-Reese scored his second of the game at 8:11 when he deflected a left-point shot from Jake McCabe over Greaves.

Eric Robinson cut the Blue Jackets' deficit in half at 12:03 with a tight-angle shot from the left wing.

Matthews put the Leafs up two with 1:03 left, finding the back of the empty net with a wrist shot from his own zone.

With the 4-2 loss, the Jackets fall to 24-45-8.
