Jack Hughes and Timo Meier Each Score Twice As Devils Demolish Blue Jackets 8-1

Jack Hughes and Timo Meier each scored a pair of goals to help the Devils obliterate the Blue Jackets 8-1 at Prudential Center in Newark Thursday.

1st Period

Tomas Tatar thought he broke the ice at 7:50 with a wrist shot from the slot, but it was called back for offsides. 

Hughes opened the scoring at 11:35 with a left-circle wrist shot on a two-on-one rush.

The Devils led 1-0 after the first period along with a 9-5 edge in shots on goal.

2nd Period

Tatar scored a goal that counted at 1:20 when he beat Boone Jenner on a rush to the net.

Hughes scored his second of the night at 2:20, finishing off a beautiful passing play from the right goal line on the power play. 

Joona Luoto scored his first-career goal at 11:33 after he crashed the net and finished a rebound created by Sean Kuraly. 

Meier scored on the power play at 16:16 from the left doorstep to extend the Devils' lead.

New Jersey led 4-1 after two periods and took a 22-13 edge in shots on goal into the third period.

3rd Period

Erik Haula made it a 5-1 game at 2:07 from the slot with a wrist shot through a screen. After the goal, Jon Gillies replaced Michael Hutchinson, who stopped 19 of 24 shots.

Meier scored his second of the night with a wrist shot from the low-slot at 4:40.

Damon Severson made it 7-1 Devils with a short-handed goal at 6:36 with a wrist shot from the high-slot on a three-on-one rush.

Ryan Graves added to the Devils' lead at 9:27 with a shot from the high slot in between three Jackets defenders.

With the loss, the Jackets fall to 24-46-8.
