The Jackets had their best chance of the period at 18:26 when Kirill Marchenko's bid from the doorstep was denied by Igor Shesterkin.

New York led 2-0 after the first period while trailing 12-9 in shots on goal.

2nd Period

Vladimir Tarasenko had an early bid to extend the New York lead to three at 0:34, but his right-circle shot hit the post.

Hutchinson kept the Blue Jackets within two with two huge saves on Mika Zibanejad with the Rangers on the power play.

With no scoring in the middle frame, the Rangers took their 2-0 lead into the third along with a 20-15 edge in shots on goal.
