Rangers Dominate Blue Jackets, Win 4-0

Goals by Jimmy Vesey, Chris Kreider, Niko Mikkola, and Vincent Trocheck helped the Rangers dominate the Blue Jackets 4-0 Saturday at Nationwide Arena.

1st Period

Vesey opened the scoring to put the Rangers ahead at 10:08 after a brutal blue-line turnover by Joona Luoto.

The Rangers doubled their lead at 11:49 after K'Andre Miller's back-hand move pulled Michael Hutchinson out of his crease, leaving Chris Kreider, who scored on his second attempt on a wide-open net from the left doorstep.

The Jackets had their best chance of the period at 18:26 when Kirill Marchenko's bid from the doorstep was denied by Igor Shesterkin.

New York led 2-0 after the first period while trailing 12-9 in shots on goal.

2nd Period

Vladimir Tarasenko had an early bid to extend the New York lead to three at 0:34, but his right-circle shot hit the post. 

Hutchinson kept the Blue Jackets within two with two huge saves on Mika Zibanejad with the Rangers on the power play. 

With no scoring in the middle frame, the Rangers took their 2-0 lead into the third along with a 20-15 edge in shots on goal.

3rd Period

Filip Chytil had his between-the-legs goal bid denied by Hutchinson at 2:01 from the goalmouth. 

Mikkola scored his first goal of the season at 5:00, putting the Rangers up 3-0 when he finished a beautiful passing sequence from Patrick Kane and Mika Zibanejad. 

Vincent Trocheck put the Rangers up 4-0 at 19:40 with a sweet shot from the doorstep.

With the loss, the Jackets fall to 24-47-8.
