Mikael Pyyhtia had a chance to score his first-career NHL goal at 12:48 but Tristan Jarry denied his left-circle wrist shot.

Pittsburgh took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission in addition to a 13-8 edge in shots on goal.

2nd Period

Andrew Peeke tied the game with a right-point slap-shot at 2:12 after Hunter McKown won the right-circle face-off.

Ryan Poehling had a golden chance to give the Penguins a 2-1 lead while short-handed at 8:09 with a wrap-around attempt that he probably should have finished, but couldn't.

The Blue Jackets had a fantastic shift, holding the puck in their offensive zone for about a minute, including two big chances from Johnny Gaudreau, but they couldn't score.

The teams were tied at one after two with Pittsburgh up 25-22 in shots on goal.

3rd Period

Jake Guentzel scored the Penguins' second power-play goal of the game at 3:53 with a slap shot from the top of the left circle.

Hutchinson made a game-saving stop on Rickard Rakell's one-timer from the left circle at 17:28.

The teams headed to overtime tied at two with Pittsburgh leading 36-33 in shots on goal.
