The Blue Jackets placed defenseman Adam Boqvist on injured reserve retroactive to Jan. 25 and recalled defenseman Nick Blankenburg from the Cleveland Monsters.

Boqvist left Thursday's game in the third period after he was hit in the face with an errant puck on the bench and is out through at least the all-star break. In 20 games this season, Boqvist has recorded seven assists. Since the Blue Jackets acquired him from the Blackhawks in the 2021 offseason, he's played 118 games with Columbus and recorded 16-37--53. The 23-year-old defenseman was selected with the No. 8 overall pick in the 2018 draft and is in the second year of a three-year, $2.6M AAV contract.

Blankenburg has played in six NHL games this year and failed to record a point while posting 3-9--12 in 19 AHL games this season. He recently returned to action following an upper-body injury. In three years since signing with the Blue Jackets as an undrafted free agent in 2022, Blankenburg has posted 5-12--17 in 49 NHL games. He's in the final year of a two-year, $825K AAV deal.

The Blue Jackets face the Canucks on Saturday at 10 p.m. ET on Bally Sports Ohio.
