1st Period

Dmitri Voronkov opened the scoring at 7:11 when Kent Johnson took space given to him and drove below the goalline before threading a backhand pass through Ottawa defenders and off Voronkov's stick. With his 13th goal of the season, Voronkov is now third among NHL rookies in goals.

Just seconds after Vladimir Tarasenko hit the right post on a wide-open net, the Senators tied the game on the power play when Tkachuk scored on an open cage from the right doorstep thanks to some elite passing at 9:48.

Tkachuk scored again after intercepting Johnny Gaudreau's pass to Zach Werenski in the offensive zone, taking the puck down the ice on a breakaway, shooting on Daniil Tarasov, and scoring on the rebound at 9:48.

Ottawa doubled its lead at 14:46 when Claude Giroux wired a left-circle wrist shot on a two-on-one while short-handed.

The Senators thought they scored 23 seconds later when Mathieu Joseph beat Tarasov on a short-handed rush but the Blue Jackets challenged the goal for goaltender interference and were successful.

Ottawa took a 3-1 lead into the second period along with a 10-6 advantage in shots on goal.

2nd Period

Ridly Greig pushed the Seantors' lead to three at 5:37 when he deflected Tarasenko's left-point slap-shot past Tarasov.

Boone Jenner answered with his 16th of the season at 10:41 with a left-circle wrist shot past Anton Forsberg thanks to assists from Gaudreau and Werenski.

Jack Roslovic cut the Ottawa lead to one at 13:54 with his third goal of the year on a bad-angle shot from the bottom of the left circle through traffic.

Tkachuk completed his hat trick at 16:48 after Giroux went around a fallen Provorov--who blocked a Giroux shot earlier in the shit--and found Tkachuk at the netmouth.

The Senators took a 5-3 lead into the third period while trailing 23-19 in shots on goal.

3rd Period

Erik Brannstrom iced the game at 19:52 with a long-range empty-net goal.

With the 6-3 loss, the Blue Jackets fell to 16-26-10.
