The Columbus Blue Jackets went with a bit of a surprise move when making their second opening night pick of the NHL draft.

Pyotr Andreyanov, a 6'2, 207 lb goaltender, was taken by the Blue Jackets with the 20th pick on Friday night.

The 18-year-old from Russia played 37 games for Krasnaya Armiya Moskva of the MHL this past season. In 37 games, he was 23-6-6 with a 1.75 goals-against average and a .942 save percentage. Andreyanov was 2-4-0 in six playoff games with a .929 SV% and 2.36 GAA. He catches with his left hand.

"He reminds me of a young (Sergei Bobrovsky)," said Blue Jackets goaltending coach Nic Backstrom.

"Every kid that we talked to down there ... we always ask them this question: if you had one player from here that you could take with you to your next team... and 90% of them said Pyotr," said President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Don Waddell.

"It was interesting to hear."

Steven Ellis of Daily Faceoff ranked Andreyanov as his 81st overall prospect:

Andreyanov had a tremendous season against Russian junior competition, showing some flashes of high-end ability. His save percentage was above .940 for most of the season, and while his team did score a lot, he seemed to thrive when he faced more action. His glove hand is quick, he’s reactive when he needs to be, and he doesn’t get frazzled when he lets a goal in. Andreyanov’s lack of size won’t help him, though.

Backstrom said he expects Andreyanov to be in Columbus on Saturday and that he'll participate in development camp, which begins next week.

Welcome to the organization, Pyotr!
