Four players had multi-point games as the Columbus Blue Jackets thumped the Toronto Maple Leafs 6-3 on Wednesday night at Nationwide Arena.

Mathieu Olivier had four points, including one goal and three assists. Cole Sillinger had three points, including his first two goals of the season. Zach Werenski had a goal and an assist.

Ivan Provorov and Dante Fabbro scored. Charlie Coyle had four assists.

Elvis Merzlikins made 35 saves.

Sammy Blais, John Tavares, and Nicholas Robertson scored for Toronto. Cayden Primeau stopped 18 shots.

Erik Gudbranson missed his second consecutive game (upper body). William Nylander missed his second consecutive game (lower body).

Here's how the Blue Jackets earned their second win at Nationwide Arena:

1st Period:

Was it a goal or was it not?

Zach Werenski and the Blue Jackets thought the puck crossed the red goal line early in the first period, but there was no goal. The replays on FanDuel Sports Network showed the puck nearly over the line, but it was just enough on the goal line when the play was blown dead.

(6:56 — CBJ Goal): Sillinger scored his first of the season to give the Blue Jackets a 1-0 lead. Coyle picked up his fourth assist of the season for the 300th of his career.

Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube might have considered challenging for offside, but ultimately decided not to. He did call a timeout in an attempt to spark his club.

(11:16 — CBJ Goal): Werenski added to the Blue Jackets with goals in consecutive days to make it 2-0. The Jackets had a tremendous 4-on-1 rush the other way after a Mathieu Olivier blue line hit that opened up the ice.

Coyle picked up his second assist, and Sillinger added an assist for his second point.

2nd Period:

(2:43 — TOR Goal): Blais scored his first goal to get Toronto within one goal. Blais made his season debut, entering the lineup for Nylander.

Jake McCabe and Steven Lorentz assisted on the goal.

After the Maple Leafs cut the deficit to one, the ice was tilting the way of the visitors.

(8:33 — CBJ Goal): That is, until Provorov scored his second of the season to make it a 3-1 Jackets lead. Dmitri Voronkov and Kirill Marchenko assisted.

(13:24 — CBJ Goal): Sillinger added his second goal to give the Jackets a three-goal, 4-1 lead. Toronto was pushing throughout the period, and then Columbus found two in the back of the net. Coyle and Werenski picked up the assists.

And there's more where that came from.

(16:58 — CBJ Goal): Fabbro became the third Blue Jackets defenseman to score, making it 5-1 home team. Olivier and Sillinger added assists.

3rd Period

(7:50 — CBJ Goal): Olivier kept the offensive charge going with his first of the season to cap a career-high four-point night. Coyle added to a four-point night with the helper.

(15:45 — TOR Goal): Tavares became the 49th player in NHL history to score 500 career goals, cutting the deficit to four. Matthew Knies and Robertson assisted on the historical goal.

(18:10 — TOR Goal): The Leafs got one more goal to make it a 6-3 score. Robertson's second of the season gave him a two-point night. Max Domi had an assist, and Blais picked up his second point.
