Acquired via a trade with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Scott Harrington was sent to the Blue Jackets in exchange for Kerby Rychel. Harrington was a staple for the Toronto Marlies before getting injured. He had been going in between the NHL and AHL with some regularity.

Formerly a second round pick of the Pittsburgh Penguins, Harrington always had high expectations attached to his name. The 2016-17 season was supposed to be a coming out party for the young Canadian.

What did we expect?

Not a whole lot.

While Rychel was a former first round pick of the Blue Jackets, Harrington had already jumped around a couple of different teams. He was a throw in and given the stipulations of the draft pick that would be acquired if Harrington was claimed off waivers, the reasons he stayed in the NHL didn't seem genuine.

As long as he didn't score on his own team, he was going to be considered a success by all accounts.

What did we get?

Well, he didn't score on his own team.

Harrington didn't have a memorable season. It's tough to do so when you play less than 30 games. Mostly used in spot duty, Harrington was used as a jack-of-all-trades. He checked off enough of the boxes to allow himself to get on the ice.

He was mobile enough to move the puck and was big enough to shove a player off the puck if need be.

In 22 games on the year, he put up three points. One goal and two assists. He was/is never going to be a player that "wows" you with his skill set. He is going to go out and do whatever the coach needs him to do.

Harrington did that in the regular season and in the playoffs too.

Before his time with the Blue Jackets, Harrington had a small sample of being a good player when it comes to shot differential. It's tough to determine where he actually lands on the good/bad spectrum but this year didn't do him any favors.

Memorable Moment

It should tell you a lot about Harrington's season that his most memorable moment was getting into a shoving match with Evgeni Malkin during the Blue Jackets first round match up against the Penguins.

Harrington also scored his first career NHL goal this year but this is one of the odder moments of the Blue Jackets' playoffs.

Contract Status

According to CapFriendly.com Harrington has two years left on his deal. The deal expires at the end of the 2018-19 season. He is currently being paid 650,000 a year. He will be a restricted free agent at the end of his contract.
