Fresh off one of their best performances of the season, the Columbus Blue Jackets return to Nationwide Arena to do battle with the Detroit Red Wings for the second time in as many weeks.

If the rematch is anything like the Blue Jackets effort Friday night — a 4-1 win north of the border over the Winnipeg Jets — it should give Columbus a great opportunity to shake the frustration of their 6-1 loss to the Red Wings on home ice November 19th.

Here's what to know when the Blue Jackets and Red Wings meet again:

TALKING POINTS: DET

  • The Red Wings just finished up five straith games at home. After winning the first two, things went off the rails a bit — they ended it with three straight losses, including a 4-1 defeat at the hands of the Vegas Golden Knights on Saturday night.

  • Special teams had a large part in the 0-2-1 week. Detroit had 13 power play opportunities in the three games — including seven in a shootout loss to the Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday — but converted just once. In that same time, they killed just two of five opposition power plays.

  • Detroit's 6-1 win at Nationwide Arena two weeks ago came with Ville Husso between the pipes for the Red Wings. He got the start Saturday, which would seem to indicate that the Blue Jackets will see Alex Nedeljkovic in the rematch. The Parma, Ohio native has struggled between the pipes this season — a 2-3-2 mark in his seven starts, 3.97 goals against average, and .880 save percentage.

  • Dylan Larkin continues to put together a monster season. His stat line of 9-16-25 leads the Red Wings in all categories and puts him on pace for a career high 93 points. Larkin scored the opening goal and added two assists in the 6-1 win over Columbus on November 19th.

CBJ

  • LAINE'S ENCORE
Patrik Laine returned from missing three weeks with an ankle injury and scored twice for the Blue Jackets in Friday's win over his old team, and the chemistry with Johnny Gaudreau and Boone Jenner on the top line looked vastly improved from their limited time together before Laine's injury. What does Laine have in store as he plays for just the fourth time this season in front of the 5th Line?

  • THE UNSUNG HERO
Is there anyone on the Blue Jackets who flies under the radar more than Gus Nyquist? The 33-year-old elder statesmen for Columbus is tied for 4th on the team in points, with four goals contributing to his 11 points. But more than the stats, it's the incredible consistency and poise shown by Nyquist that doesn't get enough praise. He's in the final year of a four-year contract and the next few months could be his last in a Blue Jackets sweater, but it's tough to shake the feeling that Goose would be a steady hand and a key asset for a young team over the next few seasons.
