After an offensive-zone takeaway at 9:15, Adam Fantilli had two key chances from the slot at 9:34 and 9:37, respectively, but Islanders goalie Varlamov stopped both shots.

New York's Kyle Palmieri opened the scoring at 15:45 when he capitalized on a rebound from the bottom of the left circle.

Jack Roslovic had a golden opportunity to tie the game at 17:38 with a one-timer from the left circle, but Varlamov was there for the save.

The Islanders took a 1-0 lead on the scoreboard and a 14-11 advantage in shots on goal into the second period.

2nd Period

The Islanders went to the power play at 11:13, and had some great chances including three shots on goal, but Martin stood tall.

The teams continued to trade chances, but neither squad could score, so New York took a 1-0 lead into the final period along with a 23-18 edge in shots on goal.

Roslovic three more close calls in the third period, being robbed by the glove of Varlamov from the right circle at 6:43 before hitting the post on the power play from the slot at 8:26 and being denied by Varlamov from the same spot at 9:05.

Matt Martin doubled the Islanders' lead at 16:39, capitalizing on a rebound from the left doorstep.
