Here is my first question of the 2019-2020 season.
Would you rather have Artemi Panarin for the last two years @ $6M AAV, or have Brandon Saad for the last two plus the next two at the same price?
For the last two seasons, it looked like GM Jarmo absolutely fleeced the Blackhawks. Just look at the line score of the two players over the past two seasons:
G A +/-
Bread 55 114 + 37
Saad 41 41 -19 (ugh!)
Clearly, the good guys in the union blue got the better end of the deal for the last two years as Panarin was clearly the better player at both ends of the ice and in all phases of the game. And this stat line doesn't even take into account the CBJ have two playoff appearances and the 'Hawks have zero in the last two years. But now, Chicago has a serviceable middle six forward and the CBJ are a little short on experienced, quality forwards. Maybe GM Bowman knew something we didn’t.
If you were GM back in the summer of 2017, knowing what you know now, what would you do? Take Panarin for two years or Saad for four?
