After, arguably, the most surprising season in Jackets history, it's normal to feel let down. Yet, without repeating a certain phrase, I believe there is reason for high expectations in the near future. Here's why.
1) PLD is developing into one of the top #1Cs in the league. A Hart trophy at some point in his career is not unreasonable.
2) The goalie position, in the organization, is the envy of the league. Two star goalies in Columbus, three of the most highly regarded goalie prospects in the pipeline AND a young goalie who, right now, could be the back up for nearly every NHL team and he's in Cleveland.
3) The, arguably, best blueline corps in the league with more NHL ready or near ready d-men in Cleveland.
4) Four under 22 years old forwards poised to become good-to-great top six contributors to the offense.
And that's without the possibility of Wennberg building on a successful post season.
Jarmo built this team right. Offense wins games, defense wins championships. Our Blue Jackets have, at the worst, the third best goalie-blueline corps in the league. (I would argue that, if age is taken into consideration, the Jackets are #1.) Now, a more than adequate group of forwards prospects is about to impose itself on the league. So, tip one for a season well played, and smile. The best is yet to come.
