Not the stat you expected to hear tonight, but the one you needed to hear:

With his power play goal against the Red Wings, Blue Jackets forward Cam Atkinson became the 11th player in NHL history to score at least one goal in five or more consecutive season opening games.

It's not super often that you hear a Blue Jackets' player name etched in history with the likes of Mud Bruneteau and Yvon Cournoyer, but hey, we'll take it.
