Daily Faceoff has a story today (Tuesday January 20) looking at various GMs trade history at the TDL. Obviously, TDL season is starting a little early, this year, due to the Olympics roster freeze. Since it's TDL season, that means the yearly "Will the Blue Jackets trade Boone Jenner?" speculation has begun.
I'm not about to speculate about Boone's availability since I suck at predicting trades and contracts. But that doesn't mean we can't have a little fun. Call it the Trade Deadline Game. Here's the scenario and rules:
Don Waddell has been forced to retire due to health problems and you have been appointed Jackets President of Hockey Operations and General Manager. While Bowness has done a good job in lifting the Jackets towards a playoff spot, it's obvious that the Jackets will fall a little short and ownership has green lit making a few trades. Reasoning the Zach Werenski is ready to swap the A on his sweater for the C and that he's your most tradable asset, you decide to let it be known that Boone Jenner can be had for the right return.
Rules:
1) Realistic trades only. No Boone for Austin Matthews and a 1st round pick type of trades.
2) The team Boone is traded to must be a playoff bound team or a team that can sneak into the playoffs.
3) Explain why you think such a trade could happen.
While I suck at predicting trades, I might comment on a trade idea. Let's get started.
